Full Moon Rituals – Letting Go Every Month

Full moon. Letting go…
For me, these two have become two very important (interconnected) things.
When I left my old life in the UK and came to the Algarve with a one-way ticket, I needed to let go of so much! A whole year full of ups and downs, disappointments, regrets, feeling stuck working for other people, heartbreaks…
I wanted to feel all the sadness that I’d managed to suppress and I craved being free after so many months spent inside during the pandemic.
When I arrived in Portugal, experiencing the sunshine and beach life in November helped me heal a lot and I started opening a new chapter. Then a good friend told me about the full moon rituals you can do to say goodbye to baggage every month.
We organised a little fire outside and wrote all the things we wanted to let go of. Then we set those pieces of paper on fire. It’s an ancient tradition that people have done for centuries connecting their lives with the phases of the moon. Every full moon is an opportunity to let go of things and every new moon, to welcome new possibilities into your life.
As witchcraft-y as it sounds, it’s one of the simplest, most liberating things you can do every month. If you have mini let-go moments, how would you ever store unnecessary emotions?
It’s very healthy for your mind and very easy to do. Next time you observe the full moon, grab a piece of paper. Write down things that stress you out, make you feel sad or angry.
Baggage to let go of:
Feeling annoyed with yourself because of little everyday tasks
Carrying too much about things said to or about you
Saying negative comments about your body
Regretting your past mistakes
Reliving the past
Being too critical of yourself
Anger and grudges towards people who hurt you
Toxic relationships and friendships
Try it. It’s a free form of therapy you can gift yourself every month!
