Imagine this: your alarm goes off. You don’t want to get up, You snooze. You fall asleep again. Then you wake up. It’s 8.50, and you have an important Zoom meeting at 9.00. Shoot! You haven’t even had a coffee, and you’re still in your PJs. You look in the mirror – your hair is all over your face, and you have this sleepy look. Quick, you have to wash your face. And use the bathroom, of course. But right now, it’s occupied. Okay, then you’ll make the coffee first.

But where is your mug?! Oh, dear. 8.57 – you quickly put on a decent-looking top, brush your hair and turn on your laptop.

While it’s turning on, you hear the bathroom door opening. Go, go! You manage to use it for 30 sec, then go back and log on to Zoom precisely at 9.00 after you’ve just managed to brush your hair and check your reflection on Zoom while it’s still loading. Coffee will have to wait…

Starting your day - two different scenarios

Now Imagine the opposite. You wake up at 6.00. Bright and early. Before sunrise. You switch off your alarm as soon as it goes off. You brush your teeth and have a sip of water. Have a coffee and sit down quietly.

You reflect on yesterday and think about all the exciting things that are about to happen today. You write down a list of things you’re grateful for. After you’ve had your coffee, you do a quick workout. No more than 15-30 min. You feel energised and rejuvenated by those good hormones.

The shower after the exercise. It feels amazing – refreshing and soothing. You have another 25 min to have breakfast and read or listen to something inspirational. By the time you need to start working, you’re filled with all sorts of good sensations: energised from the coffee, you feel accomplished for having exercised, you’re grateful for the life you have, you’ve accepted what happened yesterday and know what to expect from today. You feel charged up by a relaxing shower, your yummy breakfast, and you’ve gained a healthy dose of inspiration after your short read.

When you start your day on a high, everything aligns better.
